TO unlock the nightmare settings, without completing the game on a lower difficulty setting, hit the TILDE key and then type menu_advanced_AllowAllSettings 1. In the console, type set m_smooth 0. On the original Doom anything less then UV was a ghost town for levels. Why would Doom vets and new players have to only go through "Hurt Me Plenty!"
