In August 2018, the Indian state of Kerala received an extended period of very heavy rainfall as a result of a low-pressure system near the beginning of the month being followed several days later by a monsoon depression. The resulting floods killed over 400 people and displaced a million more. The peak spell of rains that created the extreme floods in Kerala occurred between 8th to 17th of August 2018.
